Makeup tag

Hi there!

Today I’m sharing a makeup tag with you. I thought it would be a fun way to share some of my favorite products and my thoughts on makeup in general. I picked a few questions I’ve found on other makeup tags. Enjoy!

What foundation do you use?

My favorites at the moment are Wake Me Up foundation from Rimmel London and Ultra Light Foundation from Make Up Store

How about concealer

I use Collection Lasting Perfection. A great drugstore option.

What do you think of fake lashes?

I love lashes! Natural, extensions or false lashes… For everyday use I only turn to the mascara, but when it’s time to spice up the makeup for a party or evening out I love to put on some extra umpf with false lashes.

What brand of mascara do you use?

I love mascara overall and love to try out new ones. My all time favorites are Diorshow and Lancôme Grandiôse. I frequently use the Loreal Volume Million Lashes as well.

What makeup tools do you use in makeup application?

I’m a brush-girl so I use brushes for everything. My favourites are from Peggy Sage and Emite Makeup.

Do you use makeup base/primer for the eyes?

Usually not if I’m just heading for work for a few hours, but if I need the makeup to last all day or for a party makeup, ALWAYS!

For the face?

For special occasions, yes, but usually I just make sure to moisturise the face before applying foundation and I find that good enough.

What is your favorite eyeshadow?

AH! This one is impossible! I love love love the Urban Decay Naked Smokey. And Nude Tude from The Balm. And all my Sleek palettes. And the eye dusts from Make Up Store. And the Makeup Academy palettes. No, I’m not doing this! I can’t pick a favorite.

Do you use pencil or liquid eyeliner?

I’m a true kohl pencil girl, but recently I found the Precision Liquid Eyeliner Pencil from the Flawless by Sonya collection from Forever Living so the liquid is finally starting to grow on me as well.

How often do you poke your eyes with an eyeliner pencil?

Haha! I love this question. I’ve been using the kohl liner for about 13 years now, so I could probably apply it without a mirror without poking my eye now. But when I was younger and started to learn it happened more frequently.

What is your favorite lipstick/lipgloss?

Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Lipsticks (Love the shade on 09 for example) and Make Up Store Lipglosses

What is your favorite blush to use?

Makeup Revolution Blush in colour Love

Did you ever consider taking makeup classes?

Did consider it and did do it. The class I take was pretty basic, focused on beauty, to be able to do wedding and party makeups and work in a makeup store. I would LOVE it if I could take a more advanced class for fashion photos and runway in the future.

Name a makeup crime that you hate.

For me there aren’t really rights and wrongs in makeup, as long as the one wearing the makeup is comfortable with it. BUT, I would lie if I said I didn’t want to go blend peoples’ makeup pretty much daily. Contour and eyeshadows in particular.

Could you ever leave the house without makeup on?

Yes, I do that all the time! I have very sensitive skin and from time to time it really doesn’t want me to wear makeup. At these times I usually prefer go without any makeup at all for six days a week to be able to go all in the last day just to get the satisfaction of a full face makeup. Even when my face has a good period and accepts the makeup I go without it quite often, either out of laziness or lack of time. That being said, I can just as easily do a party makeup even if I’m not leaving the house at all. Just for fun!

makeup tag no makeup

This is me today, completely makeup free. The only products I’m wearing on this picture is moisturizers for face, eyes and lips.

Do you think you look good without makeup on?

Well, we all have our good days and bad days and just as anyone I have my flaws, but overall I’m confident with the way I look.

What do you think of makeup?

For me makeup is my passion. It’s a way to express my creativity, and I love to start off with the face as a blank canvas and see the transformation. I love to play with colours and find ways to exenterate the natural beauty of the person in front of me (or myself, of course). I don’t think anyone to use makeup to hide behind, but I love how makeup can give you that little extra boost to feel like the best version of yourself as long as you’re confident with the person underneath.

Recipe: Super simple pasta with shrimps

Hi there!

Looking about a year back, cooking was not really my cup of tea. I didn’t enjoy doing it and people didn’t enjoy eating it. As Martin and I moved in together last year and I got a little more time on my hands I decided it was time learning and now, believe it or not, I’m the one that cooks most of our food at home AND I’m enjoying it.

This weekend Martin went out with his friends and I was home alone for dinner. I love shellfish, but Martin is allergic so I took the opportunity to cook with shrimps. I made a super simple, but delicious, pasta dish and thought I’d share it with you. So, for the first time ever on this blog; a recipe! Enjoy!

Pasta with shrimps

Ingredients (What I used for one big portion):

  • About 500g shrimps with shell
  • 1 portion penne pasta
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 6 cocktail tomatoes
  • About 45g baby spinach
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • A small piece of lemon
  • Oliv oil
  • Salt
  • Pepper
  • Basil

How to:

  • Peel the shrimps.
  • Boil the pasta. While you wait, dice the garlic and cut the tomatoes to half.
  • When there’s just a few minutes left on the pasta, heat some olive oil in a pan and add the garlic. Make sure to watch it so it doesn’t get burned.
  • When the garlic is getting some colour add the tomatoes and the spinach. When the spinach has reduced add the shrimps and just let them heat. Don’t let it cook for too long or the shrimps might get rubbery. Season with salt, pepper and basil to your liking.
  • Mix it all with the pasta and serve with the avocado on the side. Squeeze some lemon on top.

TADA!

What do you think? Doesn’t it sound delicious? And simple! I’d love to read your thoughts in the comments.

New York Shopping

Hey guys!

Wow! Time really flies by. Can’t believe we’re in the middle of April already. I have written so many blogposts in my head lately and I actually got really surprised when I noticed I hadn’t posted anything in nearly four months. As always it’s something I’ve really been missing and I’ve promised myself to take up on it more times than I can count.

When Martin got his schedule for spring we noticed he had a few days off in April, so we decided I should take some vacation too and make a trip somewhere. We had London, Prague and Toronto on the list but couldn’t really make up our mind. Last Saturday we decided for New York instead and caught a plane the morning after. Since we only had about three and a half day and have been to New York we decided not to do too much sightseeing and spend more time shopping. (Do I have the best boyfriend ever, to agree on such priorities, or what?) Curious to find out what I brought home? Here we go…

Gap Levis Hillfiger

I hate buying new jeans. I struggle to find a fit I like and when I do they are usually crazy expensive. Oh, the happiness when I found these high waist skinny Levi’s jeans for about a third of the price at home.

The beige cardigan is from Tommy Hilfiger. I think it will look great with a simpler dress or with jeans. Perfect for chilly summer nights when a warm jacket isn’t needed.

I love the zip hoodies from GAP. I tend to run around in them at work, so I was in great need of a new one. The pockets are my keys and my phone as I run around in the building, it’s easy to just pull off or open up if I get to warm during a treatment without interrupting the work too much and it fits to the surroundings as my salon is placed at a gym.

Calvin Klein

These tops from Calvin Klein are an absolute favorite since before. Last time I was in New York I got five of them, and was happy to see them in new patterns and colours. Perfect timing to go during spring this time and get them in brighter colours, as I went during fall last time. Works for every occasion, with either jeans or a skirt.

Guess

This dress from Guess was a great find! For only $20 at Woodbury Commons I found it nice enough to just hang in the closet until I find an opportunity to wear it. I find it to be more of a fall/winter dress so it might take a while, but it looked nice and was cheap so I just couldn’t leave it. Loving the asymmetric skirt!

Michael Kors

This dress from Michael Kors basically screams my name. It’s a nice and simple fit, with some lovely details, just how I want my perfect (easy wearable) dress. There’s a risk I’ll use this dress too much, making people think it’s the only thing I own! Or not wear it enough because I’m afraid to trash it…

DKNY

These shoes are probably my favorites from this trips shopping. Loving the fancier looking sneaker style. They will be perfect for everyday use and for a little bit dressier moments too. Maybe I wouldn’t wear them with a sequins dress, but there are most certain dresses in my closet that will go with these for a dinner with friends or a night out with Martin.

Lancome Anastasia Urban decay

Believe it or not, but there wasn’t much beauty shopping this time. Probably because my eye lids got so dry and itchy after the fly I could barely use makeup during the trip. (Hence no inspiration) At least I found a great deal on the Grandiôse mascara from Lanôme, which is my all time favorite, in a pack with their Cils Booster XL mascara base. I also got the Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion. I’ve read a lot of positive reviews on this one and couldn’t resist the curiosity to try. Lastly I got a Liquid Lipstick from Anastasia Beverly Hills in the colour Craft, which I’m also curious to try out.

My budget was a bit tighter this time than during my last visit in New York, but somehow I find that positive. This time I only got things that I know I will get a lot of use out off and I think I did quite a good job getting nice things for the money.

Did you find any favorites in the post? I’d love to hear your thoughts!

What really happened 2015?

Hey guys!

The year of 2015 is running toward it’s end. As we sat down for our Christmas dinner last week my mother mentioned what an eventful year I’ve had. Personally I’ve been so caught up in it I don’t think I’ve really realized how much I’ve been through this year. It seems in place to look back at the goals and hops I set up last year and compare them to what really happened. You can read the full post here, but I’ll give a recap as we go.

Education – Last year I told you I was going to take up studies to become a makeup specialist. I had no plans where it would lead, I just wanted to do something for fun and to get some inspiration and motivation in life.

So, what did happen? I loved it! Even more than I thought I would. Not only did it give me some extra spark to life, it pushed me to things I wouldn’t even dream of before the year started. I decided to take an extra course to become a lash stylist. And one more to learn about tinting and shaping brows, while I was at it. I quit my job, got a place at a salon and started up my own company. I’ve been given the opportunity to work at a local fashion show, do bridal makeups and built up my little circle of returning clients as a lash stylist. I’ve also expanded my company by starting up a retailing and businesses developing cooperation with one of the biggest Aloe Vera companies in the world.

Home – Just a few days after the beginning of 2015 I found our dream apartment on the estate agent’s webpage. It was a tiny bit over our budget, but I couldn’t resist sending the link to Martin, who was in Amsterdam for work. As it was everything we wished for we decided to go to the open viewing anyway. My parents joined us and we all went looking for the faults, just to get ensured this wasn’t the right one. We couldn’t find them. The flat was just perfect. My parents thought the same and lent us the money we were missing to buy the apartment. The 28:th of April we got the keys to our first common home. We have our proper office, and I got my lovely makeup studio, where I’m also able to meet with clients for lash extensions or makeup consultations.

Travel – New York and Bahamas were on top of our list of travels this year. Since the circumstances changed a bit, with my new job and a more expensive flat, we had to make a few changes in our traveling plans as well. We stayed within Europe this year, and made a few shorter trips, in time and distance. 2015 took me and Martin to Berlin, Crete, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Paris and Madrid. And as the tradition goes, me and my sister took a trip to London as well.

Blog – I would say blogging is the point where I didn’t really come as far as I hoped. The only reason for this is that it has been too hard to find the time and energy for it. With everything that has been going on lately there hasn’t really been time to do every singel thing I want to do, and unfortunately blogging has been pushed to the side. I do miss it, and hope I can change it in 2016, but that’s for another post.

I wanted to make 2015 my year and I really think I did. I got rid of things that gave me too much bad energy and started taking control of my own life. It hasn’t been a complete walk in the park, but at least I know that I do all the hard work for myself now and not just because it’s expected from me.

My 2015

Christmas Spirit

Hey guys!

Long time no see. A few months back I said yes to an opportunity to develop my company and since then a lot of doors opened and all my awake time has been dedicated to these projects. I’ve been working at events, planning events and attending to events to learn more about what possibilities I have with this. It has been stressful, but fun and worthwhile. You’ll probably find out more about this if you continue to follow me here, but today I want to do something different.

Even though November and December always seems to be the most stressful time of the year for me, I’m a big fan of Christmas and the season fills me with a happy spirit, despite all stress that I’m not able to avoid.

Yesterday Martin and I, both took a day off to celebrate his birthday and decided to spend it on a Christmas market and do some shopping for our first Christmas in the new flat. The Christmas tree will have to wait for a few more weeks, but some Advent decorations was in place. I’m keeping today’s post short and just share some pictures of the Christmas spirit that’s spreading around our home at the moment.

Have you made any Christmas posts yet? Post your links in the comments. I’d love to read them!

Workout Playlist

Hey guys,

A few weeks ago I and Martin decided it was time to make some changes in our everyday life. No more candy and sodas on an everyday basis and at least three visits at the gym a week. So far we’re doing quite well, and I’m happy to see improvement on the cross trainer. One thing that is really important to me when I work out is the music I’m listening to. That music is truly far from what I usually listen to, but my music taste is way to smooth and slow for a sweaty hour at the gym. Today I thought I’d pick ten of the songs that makes me pump up the pace a bit from the workout playlist to share with you. Some of them are connected to a special memory, some of them just gives me extra adrenaline. In no particular order;

Workout

Top from Rönnisch, pants from SOC

Do you have any workout favourites? I’d love to get some inspiration for my playlist!

Vaction update and an old hobby

Hey guys!

Time is running by so fast. It feels like our two week vacation just started, but it’s already over. We started our vacation with four days in Scotland. We flew to Edinburgh on Monday night and stayed there for two nights. It’s such a beautiful city. My second time there, and I was as amazed this time as the last. We didn’t do anything in particular, but just strolled around, did some shopping and enjoyed each other’s company. On Wednesday we took the train to Glasgow. I like Edinburgh more, but Glasgow is a quite nice city too in my opinion. Some people say Glasgow is gray and boring, but I’ve such great memories from my visits there, it still appeals to me. We met a few of my friends, that had also traveled from Sweden, and went to see the football game we had come for. Not a win at that game, but a good result for the return game at home, and we stood as winners in the end. Thursday we headed back home.

Back in Sweden we hang out with some friends, prepared for a party to celebrate our new apartment, had the party, watched more football games, celebrated my sister in law’s (to be) birthday and tried to relax as much as possible.

Tonight Martin is working his first shift after the vacation. Starting off with night shift gives me some well needed alone time. Don’t get me wrong, I love Martin and I love having him around, but I am one of those people that needs some time to myself every now and then to work properly.

When I packed all my things for the move I got reminded of all of my crafting material. I used to love crafting, but I haven’t spent time to it in forever. Today when I sat here all to myself, listening to the rain and wind outside, I felt like getting creative and make a card for my friend that just got a daughter. I felt a little rusty as I grabbed my stamps and pens, papers and scissors, but it was so much fun as I got started. It isn’t one of my most advanced pieces of work, but I loved doing it. Wouldn’t be surprised if some more of this happens soon.

Haylie

I use Promarkers to colour and the stamp is from Panduro Hobby. Unfortunately I can’t remember where the papers and flowers comes from. It’s just things I found in my stash.

Do you have/used to have a hobby that you find your way back to every now and then?

How blogging changed my life

Hi!

Today I joined the #ltbloggers chat on Twitter, which inspired me to write a blog post about how blogging has affected my life. Truth is, I don’t think I’d be where I am right now without blogging.

I started blogging in January 2014. I’ve always been passionate about writing, and I was starting to feel a bit bored with my job, so I started the blog to have something else than work to think about. I didn’t really know which direction I wanted to go with the blog, and Life of Anna S was born. No limits by the name. I also thought it was a great place to keep my memories from a coming trip to Thailand. Also, I decided to write in English instead of Swedish. That made it easier to stay quite anonymous and still build contacts and readers.

As I started to write myself, I also got more active reading blogs and watching YouTube videos. With this my interest of makeup and beauty started to grow. It wasn’t long until I realized this was the perfect way of letting loose my creativity again. I’ve always loved to  work with my hands, colours and imagination, but this has never been something to start a career on. Scrapbooking, jewelry making, beading… It was all just hobbies, and not to speak of all the storage you need for both equipment and finished work!

Anyhow, to the question that made me want to write this post.

How has your life changed since you started blogging? What has blogging brought to your life that you didn’t have before?

Without blogging I don’t think I’d find the passion I have for makeup, and obviously I wouldn’t have gotten myself to jump on an education to become a Makeup Specialist. Mostly with the thought “I want to do something for myself, and it could boost my blog a bit so it’s not a total waste” The school I went to also offered a Lash Stylist class, and there’s no way I would have found that out by myself. It turned out I loved both of it. I was feeling really messed up at the time of the educations, but everyone around me could see me light up as I practiced my homework, or talked about school. Through school I was also offered to help doing makeup at a fashion show, thrown by a hair saloon in the neighborhood town, and this was the most fun job I had ever done so far. I finally came to a point where I felt “This is what I want to do with my life. I’m on the right path now.”

As I got my diplomas I made a huge, life changing, decision. I called up my boss and said I wanted to quit. I had been wanting to do that for a while, but it’s really hard to get a job around here so leaving an okay payed job without a complete plan, isn’t just something you do. But I felt like that was it! I had come to a point where I wanted to do more with my life and was held back by a job I had started to dislike more and more.

The day after I had signed my notice to quit, I was offered a weekend spot at the salon I’m working in now. The same week I got an e-mail from the hair saloon with the fashion show, asking me if I wanted to work with them and do makeup for their prom costumers, and weddings during the summer. All I needed for both of these was to start my own company to be able to accept payment from costumers. And here I am now, running my company since almost two months back. With great success for starting from zero just recently.

Thank you blogging for waking up a passion and motivate me to get on this journey!

Twitter and Instagram pics

Hi there!

While I’ve been missing in action here for a while, I’ve still been uploading pictures on Twitter and Instagram now and then. Today I thought I would share some of those pictures here as well, along with a word or two about what I’ve been up to lately. Enjoy!

Collage

1. We moved into our new flat by the end of April, and ever since we’ve been working a lot to make it feel like home. Last week the final pieces came together. The photo is from our hallway, showing the chandeliers I got from my sister and brother from graduation, a Givenchy candle that was given to me from beauty-guru Dave Lackie and an Orchid, which are my favorite flowers to decorate with.

2. I’ve been working a lot with my new company. Eyelash extensions is what I do the most when I work.

3. When I packed up my things for the move I found these shoes I totally forgot about. Matching them with my coral maxi dress from Primark was a big hit.

4. The Glossybox of last month. Love the colourfull box the goodies came in this time. Read more about the box here.

5. One of the things I got in the box was this nail polish from Yves Rocher. It became a favorite right away. I’ve been wearing it now for three days and not a chip in sight!

6. I was asked by a hair saloon if I wanted to collaborate with them and do prom makeups for their costumers. Of course I jumped on the wagon. On this picture I’ve set up for a day’s work.

7. The collaboration went well and I was asked to help them for summer weddings as well. This photo shows some inspiration and a chart of the makeup me and the bride agreed on during our consultation.

8. I’m so happy with my businesses cards, that I finally got a few weeks back. It feels so grown up to hand them out!

9. Last picture shows a surprise gift I got from Martin last night. It’s a YSL lipstick in colour 11.

What have you guys been up to lately? I would love to get a recap of what’s been going on while I’ve been gone.

I’m back!

Hi everyone!

Long time no see. It’s crazy how time just flies by, especially when there’s so much going on. I’ve really been missing blogging, but there really hasn’t been time. Can’t wait to get to our new place where I’ll have one steady point to work from. And to get more time on my hands. Lately most of the time I don’t work has been used for school and homework, planning and packing for the new apartment (which there will be loads of for about a month more, before that changes to painting and unpacking) and trying to find valuable time to just relax a bit. Oh, and a short trip to Berlin since both me and Martin felt like we needed to get away for a few days.

So, what’s new since my last update?

I’m done with the makeup class and can officially call myself a certified makeup specialist. I loved every single minute of the education and felt like I want to learn more. Therefor I decided to take the school’s Lash stylist class as well. Starting tomorrow I will be doing that for a few weeks. Exam 22 April!

The fashion show, where I will be helping with the makeup, is getting closer. Next week it’s time to do what I’ve been dreaming about for a long time. I’m so excited to get out and experience what’s going on behind the scenes of a fashion show.

It’s just about a month till we get our new apartment. We’ve been starting selling off furniture we don’t need, or want, and started looking for what we want to buy instead. Barely just colours and wallpapers left to decide on. And small decorations of course, but that is the last part when everything else is in place.

We took a short trip to Berlin. Me and Martin got to spend some time together without the stress of seeing things around us that we “have” to do. We spent a lot of time walking and shopping and we both really liked the city. And a big win for me was that Martin really liked Primark, and even suggested a second visit!

Last of all I’ve been working “secretly” on something that will be connected to the blog in  a while. There will be a release of it as I take my exam as a lash stylist, and there will be a surprise along with it, so keep your eyes open! More information will follow!

Today was a long post, with loads of text. This seems to be what always happens when I’m off for a while. I hope that I’ll be able to be more active, even though I know time will be hard to find as I start school again and the house move is getting closer. Keep in touch though, I’m not gone and as soon as everything is back on track I promise you’ll see more of me. A lot more of me!

Lots  of love for now!
